The book is divided into ten sections with concise introductory overviews by the editor, Frank Trovato. Section one examines the foundational principles of demography and its nature as a multidisciplinary field. Section two addresses the relationship between individual action and demographic phenomena. Sections three and four cover the history of the human population and principles of age composition. Section five focuses on nuptiality and family processes.
