The original inspiration for his most famous essay, "Acres of Diamonds", occurred in 1869 when Conwell was traveling in the Middle East. The central idea of the work is that one need not look elsewhere for opportunity, achievement, or fortune—the resources to achieve all good things are present in one's own community. This theme is developed by an introductory anecdote, credited by Conwell to an Arab guide, about a man who wanted to find diamonds so badly that he sold his property and went off in futile search for them. The new owner of his home discovered that a rich diamond mine was located right there on the property. Conwell elaborates on the theme through examples of success, genius, service, or other virtues involving ordinary Americans contemporary to his audience: "dig in your own backyard!". The book has been regarded as a classic of New Thought literature since the 1870s. Russell Conwell (1843-1925) was an American Baptist minister, orator, philanthropist, lawyer, and writer.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - In 'ACRES OF DIAMONDS: Our Every-day Opportunities,' Russell Conwell delivers a compelling treatise on the rich potential embedded within the everyday lives of individuals. Drawing from his own experiences as a minister and orator, Conwell's literary style is both persuasive and motivational, employing anecdotal evidence and vivid imagery to reinforce his central thesis: that opportunities for personal and financial success abound within one's immediate environment. The work is set against the backdrop of early 20th-century America, a time marked by rapid industrialization and burgeoning individualism, echoing the zeitgeist of practicality and self-determination in achieving the American Dream. Conwell, an eminent Baptist minister and founder of Temple University, draws on the popular lecture he delivered on the significance of harnessing one's local resources for success. His belief that wealth and opportunity are accessible to all, not merely the privileged few, is deeply rooted in his experiences of socio-economic disparity in urban America. Conwell's own rise from humble beginnings to a position of influence uniquely shapes the powerful narrative that encourages readers to seek out and cultivate their own 'acres' of diamonds. This book serves as an inspiring manifesto for anyone seeking to unlock their potential and improve their circumstances. Conwell's optimistic perspective makes it a must-read for entrepreneurs, students, and anyone yearning for empowerment in their pursuits. Readers are encouraged to embrace their environment as a source of opportunity, and thus, are invited to embark on their transformative journey to success and enrichment.
