In the fourth part of this serial novel, Rory and Dawn are following the trail of a snail with Slobberer disease which leads them to Howard, the brother Rory never knew he had, and they continue the search for their dad. They fight against gripping,writhing roots that trap them in their car, roots that kill feral pigs as they eat them. The book ends as the growing roots coil themselves around Dawn and begin to squeeze.
